Medicine

To be eligible for consideration you must hold, or expect to hold by the July prior to entry, a minimum 2.1 (Second Class Honours, Grade One) result in your first Honours bachelor degree (NFQ Level 8) awarded. The degree can be in any discipline. 

Please note that students who qualify to apply for Graduate entry to Medicine will not be eligible to apply through the mature entry route.

Application is made via the (opens in a new window)Central Applications Office (CAO)* to DN401 Graduate Entry Medicine. The normal application closing date is 1 February prior to entry. Late applications are accepted up to 1 May.

You must supply

• original transcript of your degree and
• evidence of award of your degree (e.g. certified copy of their parchment).
• (opens in a new window)GAMSAT score  (Graduate Medical Schools Admissions Test – Ireland will be electronically supplied to CAO)

These documents must be submitted to CAO – please see (opens in a new window)Medicine Graduate entry section of CAO website for details of submission dates. Documents received after the submission dates will not be considered.

How are applications assessed?

Applicants who meet the minimum eligibility requirement, compete on the basis of their GAMSAT scores only.

About GAMSAT

You will need to apply to sit the GAMSAT (Graduate Australian Medical School Admission Test) test. The GAMSAT-Ireland test is held in March each year.

GAMSAT results have a currency of two years.

If you are presenting GAMSAT UK or GAMSAT Australia results you must provide these to the CAO when submitting your application.

What are the fees?

Graduate entry programmes are not part of the “Free Tuition” scheme. Please see the fees page for full information about fees for this programme. This is a level 8 undergraduate degree, so the undergraduate fees rules apply.

If you have at any time resided, or are at present resident, outside of the EU then you must contact the UCD Fees Office well in advance of the closing date to verify your EU Fee status. Your status will determine whether you apply as outlined on this document or if you are required to apply directly to the University.
